Poisonous Plants For Pets

One way to avoid large vet bills is to prevent them.  One way to do this is by not having poisonous plants around your home.  Here is a short list of common poisonous plants for pets….

Common House Plants

Plant: Hyacinth, Narcissus, Daffodil
Toxic Part: Bulbs
Symptoms: Vomiting, diarrhea, may be fatal

Plant:  Oleander
Toxic Part:  Leaves and branches
Symptoms:  Extremely poisonous.  Effects heart and causes severe GI upset and death.  Deadliest plant in the world!

Plant: Dieffenbachia (Dumb Cane), Elephant Ear
Toxic Part: All parts
Symptoms: Causes an intense burning and irritation of the mouth and tongue.  Death can occur if base of the tongue swells enough to block the air passage of the throat.

Plant:  Rosary Pea, Castor Bean
Toxic Part:  Seeds
Symptoms:  Fatal.  A single Rosary Pea seed has caused death.  One or two Castor bean seeds can be lethal.

Symptoms: GI upset, excitement, paralysis, can be fatal.
