Part 2: Ways To Reduce Other Pet Costs

In the previous post I pointed out ways to reduce your pet expenses.  One astonishing fact I want to repeat again it that pet owners spend more money on treats than they do on nutritious cat and dog food.  In this post I list even more great ways to help save money on pet expenses.

One way to save more on pet expenses is to use coupons.  I find that just buy sending a letter to the manufacturer asking for coupons, that they will send you some.  If you do this for every company you buy pet products from it can add up quickly.

Another way is to buy pet food in bulk and split it with your friends and neighbors.  If everyone pitches in the savings can be substantial in some cases.

Also if you haven’t heard of The Grocer Game, I urge you to check it out.  Although designed to save money on groceries, it also shows you how to save big money on pet food and treats, and in some cases how to get them for free.

Some people go so far as to make their own pet food, citing the savings.  This I personally would not due because it takes time to do this and it generates a lot more work.

If you really want to find cheap pet thing like carriers, leashes, and toys try to go to local garage sales.  You can almost always find some pet products there for cheap.  In fact most people are there to buy antiques, so you can have the pet stuff all to yourself.

Also, if you haven’t checked out Craig’s list in your area, I urge you to do so.  It is a website where people post ads and services.  It is like a digital garage sale and it has some great bargains.

If you get creative you will see you can save a lot of money on your pet’s expenses.  Get creative.  If you can think of a way to save on your pet’s expenses let me know by submitting a comment.
