Part 1: Ways To Reduce Other Pet Costs
While the main focus of this blog is ways to reduce or help with vet bills, the fact of the matter is that 75% of the money you spend on your pet is not related in any way to medical costs. While many people complain about high vet costs, they don’t think twice when it comes to buying expensive treats for their pets.
Did you know that it is a fact that most cat and dog owners spend more money on treats than they do on wholesome nutritious pet food!
Just look at the pet food isle in the grocery store. More and more of the room is being taken up by treats that your dog does not need.
Besides reducing how much you spend on treats there are many other areas to reduce your costs. One of the first expenses you encounter is the purchase price of a new pet. Due you really need to spend hundreds of dollars on a purebred dog you will never show when you can find quality dogs looking for a good home at the local shelter or rescue organization?
Another area to save money is with vitamins. Giving vitamins to dogs and cats on a well balanced diet is a waste of money and in some cases can harm young large breed dogs.
Collars and leashes is another area. Do you need the nice leather leash or would a cheap nylon leash work just as well and last much longer.
Dog training is another area where owners spend a lot of money. Instead of paying someone else to train your dog why don’t you do it yourself, saving you the money and in the process spending quality time with your dog.
Today some people are spending money having people come to their yards and picking up their dog’s waste. I believe they are called pet butlers in some areas. If you are out there walking your dog, why not pick it up right away.
These are just some of the areas where you can reduce pet expenses, look for the next post, part 2.
