One of the biggest expenses of owning a dog is buying dog food. A lot of dog food now costs well over one dollar per pound and it can cost even more if your dog is on a prescription diet for kidney or allergy problems.
Most people spend a minimum of $250 feeding their dogs, which if you break it down over the whole year is still less than one dollar a day.
These numbers are mostly just for dry food. If you feed canned or wet food the price gets even higher.
Some people think that cooking homemade meals is the way to go for pets. While the monetary saving might be there, I would not want to do this because you have a lot more cooking, dishes, and you have to worry about constantly preparing dog food.
